If you write the problems vertically, one on top of the other, and add them you will notice that the x’s will cancel and you will be left with 10y=-10. You can then divide both sides by 10 to get y=-1. To find the x value you pick one of your original equations and substitute y=-1 into the equation. I will use the first one so 4x + 8(-1) = 20. Then 4x - 8 = 20. Now it is just a two step equation. Add 8 to both sides to get 4x = 28 then divide both sides by 4 to get x = 7
