Nigel does part of your homework like this 3/7 + 1/4 = 3x4/7x4 + 1x7/4x7= 12/28+ 7/28 = 19/28. Note that first fraction was multiplied by 4 and the second fraction was multiplied by 7. Now, The rest will be 28/28 is equal ti 1 , This mean that 28/28-19/28 =9/29 is the fraction of the homework Nigel did after dessert.

He finished 3/7 to start. That leaves 1-3/7 = 4/7 of the homework. If he then completes 1/4 of the remaining homework, he completes (4/7) x (1/4) = 4/28 = 1/7. So total before dessert, he completed 3/7 + 1/7 = 4/7. That leaves 1-4/7 = 3/7 to be done after dessert.
